Classic chocolate cake remains Israel’s favorite cake, according to a new survey conducted by Maafe Ne’eman ahead of International Cake Day on July 20.

The bakery chain said the survey, conducted across 63 of its branches nationwide, found that Israelis consume an average of eight to 10 cakes per person each year.

According to the survey, classic chocolate cake topped the list with 13% of preferences, followed by crumb cheesecake at 11%, muffins at 9.9%, baked cheesecake at 8.7%, classic marble cake at 8%, orange marble cake at 7.4%, chocolate yeast cake at 6.8%, Ferrero Rocher cake at 5.6%, and cheese yeast cake at 5.4%. Other flavors accounted for 24.2%.

The survey was released as Maafe Ne’eman launched its summer 2026 collection, which includes new catering platters and a range of summer cakes built around fruit, chilled creams, and lighter seasonal flavors.

Summer cakes and catering platters

The new collection includes cream puffs filled with pastry cream and topped with chocolate, chilled chocolate balls, mousse platters, seasonal fruit platters, mini focaccia platters, tortilla platters, and bite-size croissant platters.

The chain is also offering summer cakes including pistachio crunch cake, blueberry cheesecake, seasonal fruit cakes, cheese and berry desserts, tiramisu, crumb cheesecake, pistachio desserts, and additional chilled cakes aimed at the hot summer months.

Maafe Ne’eman said the collection combines selected ingredients with a visual design meant to create a richer dessert and hosting experience. The products are available across the chain’s more than 60 branches nationwide.

Prices for loaf cakes and sponge cakes range from NIS 45 to NIS 68, while catering platters range from NIS 110 to NIS 250.

The chain said homemade-style jachnun baked on-site is also available at its branches.

‘Listening to culinary trends’

Mimi Neeman Shayach, co-owner of Maafe Ne’eman, said the chain builds new collections around the seasons while preserving its year-round classics.

“Maafe Ne’eman launches new collections according to the seasons and listens to culinary trends in Israel and around the world, alongside the classic products that remain popular throughout the year,” she said. “This allows us to offer our customers an original and interesting culinary experience full of innovations and surprises.”

Maafe Ne’eman began in Jerusalem in 1944, when Rabbi Baruch Neeman, the family patriarch, sold baked goods from a baby carriage. The business later grew into a national bakery chain, known for kosher baked goods, breads, pastries, cakes, and desserts.

The company said its summer collection is intended to offer customers lighter, colder, and fruit-based options during the hottest months of the year.
