US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he is banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House, "effective immediately."
Trump made the comments in a Truth Social post, describing the networks as "fake news," singling out MS NOW for having changed their name from the original MSNBC "due to lack of viewership and credibility."
"Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America," wrote Trump.
President Trump further referred to Politico as having received "an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them 'alive,'" noting that the accusation sounded to him like "corruption."
Trump says other 'fake news media outlets' will be banned in future
He added that there would be "other Fake News Media Outlets to follow."
Reuters reached out to CNN, MS NOW, Politico, and the National Press Club for comment, but none responded.
Trump has repeatedly urged broadcasters to drop comedy or news programs he dislikes or which have joked about or criticized him or his administration. He has also called on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to strip stations of licenses after criticizing news and other programming.
