Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head David Zini held several meetings this week to discuss, among other things, the possibility of canceling the agency's trips to Poland, N12 reported on Monday.
The Poland trips are intended to give Shin Bet employees a first-hand look at concentration camps, and appreciate the magnitude and intensity of the Holocaust.
In the meetings, N12 reported that Zini said he did not understand the need for the trips.
"We do not absorb values on foreign soil," he explained.
Responding to N12's report, the Shin Bet stated that Zini saw great importance in preserving the memory of the Holocaust.
"The issue of a delegation leaving for Poland is currently being discussed, taking into account a number of ethical considerations," the Shin Bet stated.
"This is in addition to the service head's instruction to examine the organizational establishment of an Israeli trip to the communities around Gaza as part of the journey of correction and instilling the lessons and legacy from the events of the bitter and hasty day in which we failed to fulfill our calling," the organization added. "We must refrain from slander and biased leaks that harm the open internal discourse that has existed within the organization over the years."
Zini cancels Shin Bet Pride Month plans
Last week, N12 also reported that Zini had canceled the Shin Bet's annual Pride Month event, as well as a variety of other pride-related plans.
According to sources, plans for the Shin Bet's Pride Month event were well underway when the organizers were notified of its cancellation, with no clear explanation provided.
Sources also listed N12 as the other Pride programming planned to take place within the Shin Bet during Pride Month, which had been denied. These plans ranged from changes to the computer system's screensavers and the addition of a banner on the screens to the issuance of stickers and the hanging of pride flags throughout the event.
The head of Human Resources at Shin Bet also received an order transferring the entire budget allocated for pride-related events and programming to the general organization's budget.
