The US Embassy in Jerusalem warned that due to "heightened tensions in the Middle East," US citizens should be prepared for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures, and other travel disruptions on Friday in a post to X/Twitter.
Anyone planning to travel from Ben-Gurion or Haifa Airport is advised to check their flight status with their airline and airport.
Ben-Gurion Airport temporarily suspended takeoffs, but said it was due to a routine maintenance closure of the runway and that takeoffs would resume at 11:00 p.m.
Escalations in the Middle East
This comes two weeks after the US resumed strikes on Iran and Iran resumed strikes on US assets in Gulf States, and one day after Houthi fighters struck two Saudi tankers in the Red Sea's Bab el-Mandeb strait, declaring a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia.
Earlier on Friday, sirens sounded across Bahrain, according to the country's interior ministry. Additionally, Jordanian armed forces intercepted seven Iranian missiles and six drones later on Friday afternoon, and Kuwait announced that its air defenses had intercepted multiple 'hostile' targets from Iran.
The attacks follow Iran's overnight strikes against Kuwait and US military infrastructure in Jordan.
