Residents of the settlement of Afeka, south of the Hebron Hills, were evacuated after a fire was detected in the woods near the area on Wednesday.

Firefighting teams and aircraft are working to contain the blaze.

The Israel Police said that it had blocked the Highway 60 in order to allow the firefighting operations and asked the public to avoid the area.

The Israel Fire and Rescue Authority said that, due to the winds, there are fears the fire could reach the settlement.

"In my assessment of the situation, I ordered the dispatch of firefighting aircraft from the 'Elad' squadron, in addition to the dispatch of additional teams to the scene of the incident," said Reshef Liran Ben-Rasah, shift commander.

In total, four firefighting aircraft are operating at the scene. Preliminary reports indicate that the fire is expanding fast, and the work was focused on preventing the flames from reaching the settlement.

West Bank settlements report wildfires in several areas

Earlier this month, the Israel Fire and Rescue Authority responded to a fire that sparked near the Beit Dror settlement in the West Bank on Thursday, along with several other fires in the region.

The blaze began in an open area and spread toward the settlement due to the wind.

Firefighters established a defensive line around the houses in the settlement, and additional teams arrived on the scene to assist.
