Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday vowed that Iran would not obtain nuclear weapons as long as he remains prime minister, after US President Donald Trump said that Tehran was attempting to rebuild its nuclear weapons capabilities.
“President Trump announced this evening that Iran is trying to arm itself again with nuclear weapons. That is true,” Netanyahu said.
“After we destroyed its immediate ability to produce nuclear bombs, both during Operation Rising Lion and Operation Roaring Lion, they are trying again.”
Speaking at the Western Wall ahead of Rosh Hashanah, Netanyahu pledged that Israel would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
"I pledge to you here at the Western Wall, ahead of the New Year: As long as I am prime minister, Iran will not have nuclear weapons," he said.
Netanyahu also announced that the IDF was "dealing with the Ali Taher Ridge" shortly before he announced that the IDF destroyed Hezbollah's underground infrastructure there.
Trump: US 'noticed there's a little activity at Pickaxe'
It is important to note that Trump never directly said that Tehran was attempting to rebuild nuclear weapons; rather, he stated that the US had "noticed there's a little activity at Pickaxe."
Trump also stressed that if US forces saw activity the president did not approve of, he would order CENTCOM to strike Pickaxe.
"We're leading in space. We know everybody that's moving at Pickaxe, we know everybody that's moving everywhere, all over Iran, and if anything goes bad, we hit them. We hit them hard," Trump said.
He also downplayed the situation, calling it a "military conflict" instead of a war.
"It's small potatoes for us. It's not a big thing," he added.
