A 43-year-old resident of Hebron, who was in Jerusalem illegally, was indicted on Sunday after he was arrested on May 29 near the Damascus Gate armed with a loaded gun, Israel Police said.

Police suspect the man was in illegal possession of the gun, in addition to being illegally in Jerusalem. He was held in detention following his arrest, and the detention was extended to June 11.

The arrest was originally made after the man was observed in a "suspicious circumstance," per the May 29 initial police statement.

When police checked the suspect's identity, they determined he was a resident of Hebron who was residing within sovereign Israel without the proper entry permits. While searching the suspect, police found and confiscated a loaded handgun.

Additionally, Israel Police and Border Police officers seized several weapons in operations across southern Israel over the weekend, police confirmed on Sunday.

This included one operation, which found two Bedouin individuals possessing three Glock pistols, ammunition magazines, and a substance believed to be crystal meth in a vehicle.

The two suspects in this incident were arrested along with the seized evidence.

Another operation found an abandoned vehicle with a handgun and ammunition concealed inside.

In a third operation, officers from Rahat seized three M-16 rifles and arrested one suspect for investigation.

Two Israeli West Bank residents arrested following violent Huwara clashes

Two Israeli settlers were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of being involved in the violent clashes in Huwara on Saturday, police announced. 

The clashes included incidents of stone throwing and the use of clubs between Israeli civilians and Palestinians, according to the IDF.

Army Radio also reported that some of the settlers involved in the incident were masked and that several Palestinians were injured, something that was later denied by the IDF.

The suspects are both male residents of the Samaria region of the West Bank in their 30s, police said.
