A suspect armed with a knife ran at Israel Police officers operating in Bat Yam, police said on Sunday afternoon, adding that the incident has been ruled as criminally motivated.

Police, in response, fired shots at the suspect in an attempt to halt his approach.

The suspect was evacuated in serious condition to Wolfson Medical Center in Holon to receive medical treatment, according to medical sources.

Two arrested after attack on Tel Aviv deputy mayor, activist group

On Friday, Tel Aviv District Police confirmed it had arrested two suspects near Tikva Market in south Tel Aviv on suspicion of being involved in an assault against activists, including Tel Aviv Deputy Mayor Chen Arieli.

A number of people gathered around the activists, who had set up a stand, and physically and verbally attacked them, Israel Police added.

The suspects were taken in for questioning, police noted.

Arieli was at the stand with youth activists from the Democrats Party, the deputy mayor wrote on social media after the event. She explained that the goal of the stand was to "speak openly and honestly, even with those who do not necessarily agree with us."
