That could be the tagline for Gal Gadot’s upcoming Amazon movie, The Runner, judging by the trailer, which was just released and which promises nonstop action and thrills.
The movie will be available to stream on Prime Video on September 2.
Gadot plays a mother racing to save her son
The movie shows Gadot playing Maya, a lawyer in London, who tells her son, Noah, “I’ve got a big day in court today,” and goes for a run after she drops him off at school.
As she runs through a park, she gets a call on her son’s phone, with a sinister, smooth, movie psycho voice telling her that her son has been kidnapped and that he will be killed if she does not do exactly as she is told.
Her first task is to sprint to a hotel, and then she is instructed to kill a star witness in her case against some vile company. Protesting that she cannot kill anyone, she begins to tremble when a picture of her son appears on her phone screen, and the voice tells her, “Oh, I think you can.”
As she races through London, we see her get hit by a car because she is so distracted, flee the paramedics who try to put her into an ambulance, confront a man on the Underground who she says has her phone, escape police who want to arrest her, jump from a bridge, and, most of all, race from location to location throughout the city.
The sinister man traps a bug under a glass while he is talking to her, then spears it, and tells her, “Remember the rules, Maya. Disobey, [and] a lot of people are going to die, not just Noah.” People are seen running down a staircase, as if from a terrorist attack.
“You’ve been running from your past,” she is told, just before a priest asks her, “Would you like to confess?” Next, she pulls a gun and waves it at a crowd, then tells the kidnapper, “You have no idea what you’ve done.”
Kevin Macdonald directs Amazon thriller
The movie costars Damian Lewis, who was in Homeland, and he apparently portrays the kidnapper.
The movie was directed by Kevin Macdonald, who won an Oscar for the documentary about the Munich Olympics massacre, One Day in September, and has made such movies as The Last King of Scotland and One to One: John & Yoko.
Gadot, best known in Hollywood for starring in two Wonder Woman movies, posted a video on her Instagram account last year showing that she was starting to go running with a coach to prepare for the film. The extremely fit mother of four admitted that running is the only exercise she doesn’t love.
Protesters targeted London filming
Anti-Israel protesters tried to disrupt the filming of The Runner in London several times, according to reports in the British press, including the Daily Mail, because of their displeasure over the casting of Gadot.
