Waves of sound and color crashed on stage and doused the crowd late into the night at a concert hosted by Electrock in Tel Aviv last week.
An ambitious, genre-blending cross-section of Israeli music history brought together household rock legends and electronic music icons under one roof.
The lineup included an opening set by DJ Laroz, followed by Beit Habubot, a major Israeli pop-rock band, and Shotei Hanevuah, known for blending reggae, dub, hip-hop, and Middle Eastern melodies.
It concluded with Astral Projection’s hypnotic trance music – all blending intrinsically with the venue’s theme of electronic fusion.
The crowd set off around 11 p.m. to deep, organic house rhythms that set the venue’s atmosphere before Beit HaBubot and Shotei Hanevuah, two staple bands of the 2000s, took the stage for a reimagined set of driving, festival-style electronic backbeats.
Hearing nostalgia rewired through modern, high-voltage production created a spark with the crowd.
Beit HaBubot’s anthems blended the crowd’s familiarity with sing-along hooks and explosive dance floor drops, and Shotei Hanevuah’s grooves gave way to heavy, rhythmic baselines that kept the energy alive.
The night reached its crescendo in a collision of Israeli music pioneers with the psytrance duo Astral Projection, who shared the stage with rock frontman Hemi Rudner of Eifo Hayeled fame.
Bridging the gap between 90s Goa trance and classic Israeli alternative rock, Rudner’s vocals cut through Astral Projection’s high-BPM synth walls, uniting veteran rockers and ravers alike in a high-octane climax.
Israeli rock, electronic music scenes thrive together
Electrock’s inaugural showcase proved that Israel’s rock heritage and its world-renowned electronic scene don’t just belong under the same roof. They thrive together.
By bridging generations of concertgoers and dismantling genre boundaries in a single night, the event demonstrated that classic Israeli melodies lose none of their soul when plugged into the high-voltage pulse of electronic club culture.
The event series will continue on September 10, when DJ Animato will host Haim Uliel (of the band Sfatayim) and The Giraffes, who will also perform their songs in new electronic versions.
A third event is expected to take place during October, featuring an international DJ from the Burning Man scene. The DJ’s identity and the exact date will be revealed at a later stage.
