Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, requested that lifetime security measures be taken for her and her children, the N12 news site reported on Tuesday.
According to N12, the request occured during a meeting with David Zini, head of the Shin Bet (Israeli Security Agency).
Sara reportedly requested that a decision be made immediately on her and her children's security, before the upcoming election.
Sources from Close Security Unit 730 stated that the perceived risk to Netanyahu's family is not high and does not require ongoing long-term close security measures. This position was presented to Zini, who has refused to sign off on it.
The Shin Bet refused to comment on the situation. N12 did not receive a response from Netanyahu's office.
Knesset considers allocating millions for Netanyahu security
On Monday, the Knesset Finance Committee discussed a request to transfer NIS 393 million to the Prime Minister's Office, primarily for security reasons.
According to MK Vladimir Beliak of the Together Party, the increased budget would include "almost NIS 100 million for increasing security around the Prime Minister's Office and the Netanyahu family, including another NIS 12 million for security for the family."
"I am not saying they do not deserve security," Beliak said. "I am only asking why another NIS 12 million is needed now, three months after the state budget was approved."
