The record-breaking transfer of Israeli soccer star Anan Khalaili was called off by Inter after the player failed his medical tests, Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta announced at a Monday press conference.

"We had negotiated the acquisition of Khalaili, who failed the medical examinations, as communicated to us by CONI," he told reporters.

"In Italy, there is a very strict health protection law; this medical examination was approved by CONI. It's a force majeure situation that we must comply with," he added.

Khalaili was originally set to join Inter for €30 million (€25 million plus add-ons), which would have made him the highest-priced Israeli player ever bought, surpassing players like Oscar Gloukh (€15 million), Munas Dabbur (€17 million), and Manor Solomon (€6 million).

This is a developing story.
