The negotiations between the United States and Iran are "going well," US President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday, adding that a finalized deal might happen sometime during the weekend.
"It might not happen," Trump told reporters at the White House, before adding, "it could happen over the weekend."
He described Iran as "volatile," stating that the US military was more than capable of wiping the country out within a few weeks.
"I'd rather not do that," he said. "Very easy to do. They're ready to do it, they want to do it. But if we can get something down in writing which will accomplish the same thing without killing everybody, I'd like to do that.
US to take Iran's uranium in negotiated deal, Trump says
Under a deal being discussed with Iran, "we will get" Tehran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium, Trump stated.
"I want to get it," he said. "We will go get it at some time in the not-too-distant future."
He also mentioned that a key issue was trying to separate the issues of opening the Strait of Hormuz and of the hostilities in Lebanon.
According to Trump, the US discussed matters with the Hezbollah terror group for "the first time ever," and that both sides has agreed not to strike each other.
