The Israel Airports Authority is moving forward with one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of Ben Gurion Airport: The expansion of Terminal 3, designed to increase the airport's passenger capacity and prepare for the expected growth in passenger traffic over the coming years.
As part of the project, a new wing covering approximately 63,000 square meters will be built on the eastern side of Terminal 3. It will include new passenger halls, retail and service areas, advanced technological systems, and operational infrastructure. According to the Airports Authority, the expansion is part of a broader development plan that will increase the airport's ground capacity to approximately 40 million passengers per year.
The new wing will add 86 check-in counters, bringing the total to 206, along with duty-free shopping areas, retail outlets, restaurants, offices, training facilities, and operational spaces. In addition, a new baggage screening and sorting facility will be constructed, equipped with an advanced sorting system designed to improve baggage handling processes and reduce waiting times.
Strategic Investment
The Airports Authority said the expansion of Terminal 3 is intended to accommodate rising passenger traffic and the return of international airlines to operations in Israel. The project is part of a comprehensive development program that also includes the construction of the airport's fifth concourse and upgrades to operational and security screening systems.
Transport and Road Safety Minister Miri Regev said, "The expansion of Terminal 3 is a strategic investment that will ensure the public continues to receive advanced, safe, and efficient service in the years ahead."
Airports Authority Chairman Yiftah Ron-Tal said the project is intended to ensure that Ben Gurion Airport continues to serve as Israel's primary gateway while maintaining the highest standards of safety and passenger service.
