Kites will rise into the sky at Tzuk Beach during Sukkot, carrying behind them a story that began in Kfar Aza and became a tradition of community, memory, and hope. This marks the third year that the kite festival is being held in Tel Aviv in memory of the late Kutz family.
The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality will host the Kfar Aza - Tel Aviv-Yafo Kite Festival during Sukkot in memory of the members of the Kutz family who were murdered on October 7. The event will take place on September 30 at southern Tzuk Beach, featuring kites, performances, workshops, and activities for the whole family, with free admission.
This is the third year the kite festival is taking place in Tel Aviv as a tribute to the tradition created by the Kutz family at Kibbutz Kfar Aza. The late Aviv Kutz, who was a kite enthusiast and builder, initiated the annual community event at the kibbutz. On October 7, 2023, Aviv, Livnat, and their children Rotem, Yonatan, and Yiftach were murdered in their home on the very day that the annual kite festival, organized by Aviv, was scheduled to take place.
This year's event will take place on Wednesday, September 30, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on the lawns of southern Tzuk Beach. Participants can bring a kite from home or purchase one on site, write a wish on it, and fly it into the sky.
During the day, there will also be performances and activities for children, a workshop and arts area, coloring activities, origami bookmark making, and kite decorating. Performing on stage will be the Tzofei Tel Aviv Troupe, the Tzeirei Tel Aviv Troupe, Hillali's children's show, and the Acropolis band. The event will be hosted by DJ Ohad Levy, and food stalls will also be set up at the site.
One kite, wishes from across the city
Ahead of the event, a community initiative titled The Wish Kite is also taking place. Residents from various neighborhoods in Tel Aviv are invited to create a large kite together by writing a word, wish, or message on colorful strips of paper and attaching them to a shared string. The strings collected at community centers will be joined into a single kite to be displayed at the event at Tzuk Beach, and during the kite festival, visitors will be able to add further wishes to it.
The arts and crafts activities will take place on September 27 at the Chess Community Center and on September 28 at the Tsukei Aviv Community Center. Participation is free of charge.
