A joint investigation by the Haifa Investigations Tax Assessor in the Tax Authority and the ACL Coast Unit in Lahav 433 led to the arrest of an Israeli resident suspected of committing extensive tax offenses and money laundering against the backdrop of digital currency trading activity totaling tens of millions of dollars.
According to the suspicions being examined by investigative authorities, the suspect traded digital currencies on various exchanges without reporting it to the Tax Authority. The suspicions further indicate that he omitted income from this activity from his personal reports in order to evade lawful tax payments.
In addition to the direct tax offenses, suspicion arose during the investigation that he held bank accounts abroad that were not reported to the authorities as required. To disguise the existence of the funds and the scope of the trading, the suspect used another person's bank account through which he hid his activity and the funds received from it.
As part of the investigative actions, field searches were conducted, during which investigators seized significant amounts of foreign currency cash as well as a luxury vehicle. Police and the Tax Authority suspect that the luxury vehicle was also registered under another person's name as part of the suspect's asset-concealment mechanism.
The suspect was brought for a hearing at the Haifa Magistrate's Court, where investigators requested to extend his remand. The court granted the request and extended his detention until Sunday, October 11, 2026. The Tax Authority and police noted that the investigation into his case is ongoing.
