Anthropic is in talks to acquire the Nvidia-backed artificial intelligence startup Decart AI. The deal, estimated at around $6 billion, could mark Anthropic's largest acquisition to date, according to a Bloomberg report.
Decart develops AI infrastructure and optimization technologies, as well as independent models. The company's software helps chips operate more efficiently, which could lower training costs for AI models and assist Anthropic in handling growing demand and resulting compute capacity constraints.
Among Decart's developments are the Lucy model, which enables real-time video editing, and the Oasis model, which generates simulation environments for training and testing robotics and autonomous driving systems.
Last May, Decart raised $300 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with participation from Nvidia alongside additional investors including Adobe Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and Benchmark. The funding was completed at a company valuation of nearly $4 billion. The company was founded by Dean Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev.
If the deal goes through, Decart's workforce is expected to join Anthropic's inference and performance division. The move comes as Anthropic prepares for an initial public offering (IPO) and amid massive investments of tens of billions of dollars by its competitors in data center infrastructure.
However, discussions are only in early stages, and the deal may still not materialize. A representative for Anthropic declined to comment on the report, and Decart did not provide a response.
