Actress Helen Mirren was called an "evil Zionist b****" by a man in the street on Wednesday, while walking in the East London neighborhood of Tower Hill.
The 80-year-old Oscar-winning actress was walking at night with her husband, director Taylor Hackford, a video posted on X/Twitter showed, when she was accosted by a man calling her "Helen Mirren, the avowed Zionist."
"You said Israel should last forever because of the Holocaust," he shouted at her. "She was very happy that Palestinians' houses were gone," he added. Hackford shouted back for him to leave them alone.
Helen Mirren speaks out in support of Israel
Mirren, despite not being Jewish, has been outspoken in her support of Israel for years.
In 2023, she portrayed the former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir in the film Golda. During this time, Mirren spoke to Israel's Channel 12, where she stated, “I believe in Israel, in the existence of Israel. I believe Israel has to go forward into the future, for all of eternity. I believe in Israel because of the Holocaust."
Last month, she also joined hundreds of leading entertainment figures in putting her name on a petition to support Israel's inclusion in the Eurovision Song Contest.
