A haredi (ultra-Orthodox) man was detained in Ahisamach under suspicion of causing disruptively loud noise, following which the police discovered that he was a draft dodger, N12 reported on Sunday.
The suspect was released approximately half an hour later, before the Military Police could arrive, an organization that aids haredi draft dodgers stated.
N12 also reported that, after the man was arrested, word spread among the haredi community, and a large group arrived at the area to pressure police to release the suspect.
Netanyahu says draft evaders will 'enlist or go to prison'
Last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly told officials that if re-elected, he would not advance the contentious law that seeks to freeze the arrests of haredi draft evaders, which his coalition recently passed last month.
Netanyahu said the legislation was unsuccessful and that it would be discontinued in the next government, according to a KAN report.
The report further added that Netanyahu had said draft evaders who do not study Torah will either “enlist or go to prison.”
