A man in his 30s was killed, and a woman in her 40s was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Route 762 near Rechasim on Sunday.
Magen David Adom teams pronounced the man dead at the scene. They treated the woman before taking her to Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa with injuries to her abdomen and lower limbs.
"This was a very serious traffic accident. Two vehicles collided with one another. In one of the vehicles, a woman about 40 years old was trapped, in serious condition, and suffering from injuries to her abdomen and lower limbs. In the second vehicle was a man about 30 years old who was suffering from very severe injuries. We carried out medical examinations, but he had no signs of life, and unfortunately we were forced to pronounce him dead at the scene," MDA emergency medical technician Avi Boyar said.
Firefighters also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle split in two, with part of it having rolled into a ditch about four meters deep.
Two killed, six others injured in traffic accidents nationwide
Earlier in September, two people were killed, and six others were injured in traffic accidents across Israel over one weekend. In a separate incident, a man in his 40s was killed in a hit-and-run on Route 553 near Moshav Porat. MDA teams found him with multisystem injuries and no signs of life and pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver who struck him, a woman in her 30s, was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene and taken for questioning.
The previous Friday, a 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed while riding on Route 7 near the Sorek Interchange at night. A boy about four years old was also struck by a vehicle, apparently near the parking area of his home in Jerusalem's Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood. He was evacuated to the hospital in critical condition, with no pulse and not breathing.
