Israel Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter said on Sunday that his son Neria's life was "still in balance," but that "we have seen some encouraging signs and we are holding onto them with hope," after being hit by a terrorist during a Wednesday car ramming attack in the West Bank.
"Neria's life is still hanging in the balance, but we have seen some encouraging signs, and we are holding onto them with hope," Leiter wrote on X/Twitter. "My family and I are grateful to everyone who is praying for us and supporting us during this time."
"We believe in the power of prayer, in the fact that the Lord hears prayers and can heal even when healing seems impossible. Alongside my deep sense of gratitude to everyone who cares, I ask that the prayers for Neria also include wishes for complete healing for all those who were severely injured by terrorists," he added.
"Neria and his friends are the heroes who ensure that we can persevere and prevail in the fight against those who sow murder and destruction. This is a struggle for the future of civilization, no less," Leiter concluded.
Leiter explained earlier at a Thursday press conference that this situation was different from the time when he lost his other son, Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidya, saying that "he died instantly, and there was no possibility of bringing him to a hospital and allowing Israel’s doctors to save his life."
Leiter's daughter gives birth in same hospital where son is being treated
Leiter was in the US when the attack happened, saying that he had feared that he would land in Israel without any hope and that he was heartened to hear that Neria's condition had stabilized.
IDF reservist Neria Leiter was seriously wounded in a car-ramming terrorist attack at Bell checkpoint on Route 443 on Wednesday, and is being treated at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
Leiter revealed on Thursday that his daughter had given birth the day after visiting her brother, and was in the same hospital as Neria, only 40 meters away.
