Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) chief David Zini met with senior French intelligence officials in Paris to discuss counterterrorism and radical Islam amid widespread riots and violent protests across France, KAN News reported on Wednesday.
Zini arrived in France on Tuesday for a working visit, during which he met with his counterparts in the French security services against the backdrop of the ongoing unrest in the country.
According to KAN, the visit had been scheduled in advance, but the discussions included efforts to combat terrorism and radical Islam amid weeks of riots in the European country.
Zini met in Paris with senior officials from France's General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and the General Directorate for External Security (DGSE).
The Shin Bet declined to confirm Zini's meetings in France or provide details about their nature, KAN reported.
Demonstrations across France turn into riots
The visit comes after around 1,200 protesters were arrested and 150 police officers were injured during demonstrations across France on Saturday.
The demonstrations escalated into riots, with violent clashes between protesters and police, widespread looting of stores, and buildings and vehicles being set on fire, particularly in the major cities of Paris, Marseille, and Lyon.
