A significant development emerged on Thursday in the investigation into the murder of Eldar Dayan, whose remains were discovered that morning in an open area near Yarkon Junction in Petah Tikva, approximately 50 meters from the gas station where he was last seen on July 18.
The two suspects arrested in connection with the case had their detention extended by seven days on Thursday.
After several days of exercising their right to remain silent, they began to communicate with investigators.
The formal murder investigation commenced on Thursday at the Sharon District Central Unit, where the two suspects were questioned separately. During this questioning, one of the suspects started to provide information that investigators believe could clarify the circumstances surrounding Dayan’s death.
Police officials informed Maariv: “In the coming days, we will know exactly what happened in the final moments of the late Eldar Dayan.”
Dayan's remains discovered by police last week
Dayan, a resident of Dimona, was last seen on Saturday, July 18, at a gas station in Petah Tikva. His remains were found on Thursday in an open area near Yarkon Junction, roughly 50 meters from the gas station.
A police dog involved in the search led officers to the location. Items of clothing were found near the remains, and investigators are awaiting results from the National Center of Forensic Medicine to determine the cause and time of death, as well as to identify evidence that could clarify the circumstances surrounding his demise.
The investigation is currently focused on two of Dayan’s friends, who were arrested after his disappearance.
Investigators are also examining two motorcycle helmets found in the area, along with the vehicle the three men had traveled in. The vehicle was discovered abandoned near the gas station, with its license plates removed.
Investigators are still working to reconstruct the timeline of events from the moment the three men arrived in the area until Dayan’s disappearance.
