Border Police officer Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani, 20, was shot and killed in the Kiryat Hasharon area of Netanya on Saturday
An unidentified suspect, who is suspected to be an IDF soldier per Israeli media reports, opened fire at a police unit and was neutralized by officers at the scene, according to a statement from the Israel Police.
Central District Commander Deputy Commissioner Amir Cohen went to the scene of the crime, along with other police units, once it became clear that the situation was unusually violent.
The shooter's motives are unclear, according to police, who were still at the initial stages of investigation at press time.
Sgt. Amrani was a resident of Netanya and had joined the Judea and Samaria Border Police in August 2024 for his compulsory military service, operating primarily in Hebron. Eight months before his death, he transferred to another company within the Judea and Samaria Border Police. He is survived by his parents and siblings.
Stabbing attack in Jaffa
Later on Saturday, Police issued a statement on a reported stabbing attack in Jaffa, Tel Aviv.
The victim, a man in his 40’s according to Hebrew media reports, was evacuated by Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics to Wolfson Medical Center in Holon.
Police officers from the Jaffa station arrived at the scene shortly after the attack and began investigating and collecting evidence, including searching for suspects.
The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
Herzliya shooting in residential building
On Friday, a 21-year-old resident of Herzliya was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a shooting that occurred in the lobby of a residential building in the city center, according to a police statement.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered evidence in the lobby consistent with gunfire.
Following their initial investigation, the suspect was located and taken into custody on Friday afternoon.
During the arrest, authorities found a scooter without a license plate near the suspect's location, which they believe may have been used in the shooting.
The suspect is currently being questioned and is expected to appear in court on Saturday evening for a hearing regarding the police's request to extend his detention.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.
