The multi-million shekel race for Israel’s lucrative winter holiday entertainment market kicked off on Sunday as the country’s largest production franchises unveiled competing star-studded lineups for the 2026 Hanukkah season.
With ticket sales opening nationwide, producers are moving in two distinct directions to capture family audiences. The industry’s dominant juggernaut, Festigal, is leaning into a high-octane spy-and-K-pop crossover, while its revitalized rival franchise, Motek, is betting on deep-cut childhood nostalgia to bridge the gap between toddlers and grandparents.
The official title for the next iteration of the country’s largest annual stadium show has been revealed as Top Secret Festigal. The production connects the worlds of espionage and international pop music.
Set in the fictional “Pop City,” a group of elite, tech-savvy secret agents are sent on a bizarre undercover mission. They must transform into a fully functioning K-pop band within 30 days to infiltrate a massive music competition and thwart a mysterious villain. The comedic hook centers on agents who can scale buildings and hack networks but have zero ability to sing or dance.
The production has secured pop superstar Noa Kirel and veteran entertainer Ran Danker, alongside franchise regular Eliana Tidhar and guest singer Eden Ben Zaken.
The show brings back its signature live competitive song contest where audiences vote for the winning track. It will also revive the Festigal Children performing troupe.
The premiere is scheduled for November 28.
‘Motek Forever’
Aimed at toddlers and younger children, the softer, narrative-driven Motek Forever (“My Sweetheart Forever”) franchise is staging a high-stakes comeback after a multi-year hiatus.
The production is leaning into cross-generational nostalgia by pairing legendary 1990s children’s television icons Hani Nahmias and Michal Yannai with contemporary youth favorites like Miki Ma Nismiki, Cogomelo, Kofiko, and Paw Patrol.
In a thematic contrast to Festigal’s modern K-pop espionage, Motek centers on a fantasy “Song Factory” housing historical childhood melodies. When a hi-tech melody machine malfunctions, modern characters must team up with the veteran icons to recover scrambled musical heritage.
Directed and choreographed by Omer Zimri, the show features classic Israeli children’s songs completely rearranged by Hezi Shaked with modern pop instrumentation.
Motek Forever premieres on December 4.
