Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich traveled to Washington on Saturday night in order to meet with leaders of Latin American nations and expand the Isaac Accords, the new diplomatic-economic initiative with Latin American countries, Walla reported on Sunday.

The minister is scheduled to return to Israel as early as Wednesday, after conducting an intensive marathon of meetings in the United States with key Latin American figures.

For the moment, the accords, which mirror the Abraham Accords signed with Arab countries, include Argentina, Uruguay, Panama, and Costa Rica.

According to the initiative's outline, the cooperation will focus on the sale of Israeli defense systems and military technology, primarily for maritime security, police force modernization, and the fight against organized crime and narco-terrorism.

Argentina launches Isaac Accords

The accords were launched in November 2025, after a meeting in Buenos Aires between Argentine President Javier Milei and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.

Milei said Argentina would serve as a “pioneer” alongside the United States in promoting the new framework, describing it as a vehicle to deepen engagement with Israel across a range of strategic fields.

The financial infrastructure of the initiative is based on the Genesis Prize grant money of USD 1m. awarded to Milei in June of last year.

This new body, operating under the auspices of the Genesis Prize Foundation, will coordinate the management of budgets, investments, and business relations between the United States, Israel, and South American countries.
