Aliyah and Absorption Minister Ofir Sofer (Religious Zionist Party) announced that he will not run for re-election in a statement released on Wednesday.
In his statement, Sofer thanked his supporters and said he would continue to serve in his position until the end of his term.
Religious Zionist Party head and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responded to Sofer’s decision in a post on X/Twitter, lamenting his upcoming departure from politics.
However, he stated that he respects Sofer’s decision and is confident that the aliyah minister will find another way to serve Israel outside of politics.
This comes after Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren (New Hope-United Right) on Tuesday announced her resignation from the government, stating that she could no longer stand behind the government’s decisions.
