After the Sin of the First Man, says Kabbalist Eduard Shyfrin, duality entered the world – Life and Death, Good and Evil, Hell and Paradise. What was the state of Creation before Adam and Eve sinned?
Shyfrin, Kabbalah scholar, businessman, and musician, provides his answer in “The Cage,” the single taken from Shyfrin Alliance’s debut album, “Upside Down Blues.” Says Shyfrin, “It’s a radically different realm without duality and separation, the realm of absolute Mercy. This was Plato's intent in his famous parable about the man born in a dark cave who was unaware of the light.” He adds, “We are in the same position, confined to the cage of spacetime,” or as the lyrics of The Cage state, “Who's the first to Hell or Paradise? I raise my eyes /Beyond Hell and Paradise/ On high in infinite sky/ The Crown of Mount Sinai.”
For Shyfrin, music is more than entertainment; it is another medium through which to explore the spiritual and philosophical ideas that have occupied him for years in his writing and study of Kabbalah. Rather than presenting abstract concepts as theology alone, he seeks to express them through stories, imagery, and melody that resonate at both the emotional and intellectual levels.
The Upside Down Blues album has been an impressive success. Its 12 tracks of intoxicating rock, blues, and romantic balladry, brimming with messages of unconditional love and antiwar sentiment, have captured the attention of music tastemakers around the world.
Few artists arrive at music after careers in both international business and the study of Kabbalah. Shyfrin brings those seemingly disparate worlds together in Upside Down Blues, an album that turns ancient mystical concepts into contemporary rock and blues.
