Sirens sounded in Kuwait on Thursday evening, according to reports from the state news agency, KUNA.
The Kuwaiti army reported that the country's air defense systems were intercepting "hostile Iranian drone threats."
Local sources said that Iran had launched drone and missile attacks at the Al-Salem airbase in Kuwait, Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported.
The Al-Salem base is primarily used by the Kuwait and US Air Forces, and is a major operational and logistical hub for US forces in the region.
IRGC- affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported that the base's Patriot air defense systems had been activated.
Iraq, Kuwait border crossing was targeted
Earlier on Thursday, the Kuwaiti Army announced it was intercepting Iranian hostile drone and missile threats in its airspace on Thursday.
"The General Staff of the Army notes that if explosion sounds are heard, they are the result of air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks," said the Kuwaiti military in a statement.
Additionally, a border crossing between Kuwait and Iraq was targeted by drones, said Kuwait's military in a post on X/Twitter, citing Defense Ministry Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi.
"The Abdali border crossing was subjected, this evening, to repeated targeting by hostile drones, which resulted in material damage, with no human injuries recorded," said the post.
