A restricted zone will be announced outside the Strait of Hormuz in coming days, Mohsen Rezaei, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said on Sunday according to state media.
He added that the zone would include areas in the Gulf.
Rezaei added that maps of ships' passage in the Strait of Hormuz which had been agreed upon with Oman would also be signed in coming days.
US, Iran launch mutual strikes over Strait of Hormuz
The United States and Iran have repeatedly challenged each others' authority over the Strait of Hormuz in recent times, with frequent strikes being conducted by each one against the other.
On Saturday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that the Iranian Navy targeted three oil tankers traveling through the Strait of Hormuz and three US-affiliated ships in retaliation for three oil tankers hit earlier in the day by US forces.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) did not confirm the strikes.
Earlier, CENTCOM announced that US forces had struck three Iranian oil tankers, including one off the coast of Kharg Island, near Iran's key oil export hub. These strikes were likewise stated to be retaliation for the IRGC launching ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships.
