In the filmed confrontation at the Friday march, most of Wiener’s hecklers referred to Israel and Gaza, causing him to leave the event rather than attend a scheduled Pride Shabbat.

For many attendees Sunday, the Jew York Pride contingent offered a rare opportunity to celebrate both their LGBTQ and Jewish identities without feeling forced to choose between them.

Wiener was surrounded by people who made statements about his “Israeli handlers, among many other inaccurate, extreme, and vile statements,” Wiener said. 

Alongside pride and institutionalized chapters, the data on the ground is concerning: 35% fear harm to promotion, and a quarter of employers refuse to employ transgender people.

Amid the negotiations, a drag queen, a Persian-Israeli singer, and a DJ have teamed up to issue a call for freedom.

Friday's group game falls on Seattle's Pride weekend, a scheduling quirk that emerged only after December's draw pitted the two Muslim-majority countries against each other.

"They're not going to turn off the World Cup on state television in Iran or Egypt to block out a Pride flag in the audience," Cairns said.

According to sources, plans for the Shin Bet's Pride Month event were well underway when the organizers were notified of its cancellation, with no clear explanation provided.
