Nuclear talks with iran

The briefing came while the Trump administration's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner were in Geneva holding nuclear talks with Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a nuclear agreement with the US is within reach if diplomacy is prioritized, as the two sides prepare to resume talks in Geneva on Thursday.

Reported targets of the strikes could include the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran’s nuclear sites, or its ballistic missile program.

Top national security advisers met in the White House Situation Room to discuss Iran and were told all US forces deployed to the region should be in place by mid-March, the official said.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated that Tehran would be wise to reach an agreement to avoid any conflict.

Two critical events have changed everything since 2025, and the Islamic Republic appears dedicated to living in an alternate reality in which those events have not transpired. 

“Progress was made, but there are still a lot of details to discuss," said the official, who declined to be identified, detailing discussions in Geneva.

The US military is preparing for a sustained campaign against Iran in the event of a failed deal, according to US officials.

This comes after the Trump administration told Iran that it expects the Iranian delegation to arrive at their next meeting “with meaningful substance," sources told the Post.

As Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff arrives in Israel, officials see the visit as a real-time effort to test Israel’s red lines on Iran and gauge what kind of deal Jerusalem could tolerate.
