Arkia operated its first direct flight from Tel Aviv to Madeira, the Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, on Tuesday evening. The flights are operated in cooperation with Millennium using Arkia's Airbus A321 aircraft.
The direct flight time from Israel to Madeira is approximately six hours and 20 minutes. The aircraft lands at Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport, named after the soccer star who was born on the island.
What awaits visitors in Madeira?
Madeira is known for its mountainous landscapes and dramatic cliffs, along with hiking trails that pass through forests, peaks, and ancient water channels. The island also offers picturesque towns, beaches, and vantage points overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Flights to Madeira require dedicated training for flight crews due to the characteristics of the local airport. Ahead of the route's opening, Arkia pilots completed the necessary training.
In the initial phase, Arkia will operate three direct flights. The company notes that it plans to expand operations to the destination and add more flights for Israeli travelers in the future.
