Thousands of Israelis landed abroad over the past 24 hours for expensive vacations they had eagerly prepared for months, without clothes and personal belongings due to Thursday's surprise strike.

Only about one-third of flights are departing on schedule as passenger traffic approaches prewar levels, Arkia CEO Oz Berlovitz told 103FM on Thursday.

The Israeli carrier will increase its summer capacity to JFK before introducing an aircraft with 46 business-class seats and an Israeli crew present on every flight, starting in September.

According to the airline, the flights will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, allowing Israeli travelers to visit one of North Africa's "most fascinating destinations."

Arkia’s project could lead to “a new page in the history of Israeli tourism,” Tali Yativ, owner and CEO of Spirit World Productions, noted.
