Another mega-deal in the global food industry is under way, this time with a prominent Israeli angle. The Goodles mac-and-cheese brand, founded in partnership with actress and model Gal Gadot, has signed an agreement to be acquired by Barilla Group, the world's largest pasta company. Financial details were not disclosed, and the deal currently awaits regulatory approval.

The brand was founded in October 2020 under the name Gooder Foods by Gadot, best known for playing Wonder Woman in the DC superhero films, together with her husband, Jaron Varsano. The venture was born from the idea that the beloved comfort food - macaroni and cheese - could become more nutritious while remaining delicious. Today, the company is branded as a more nutritious, high-quality alternative to existing mac-and-cheese products on the market. Following the current acquisition by the Italian food giant, it remains unclear in what capacity Gadot will continue to be involved with the brand in the future.

According to the companies' announcement, Goodles and Barilla Group share common values, including a passion for food and a commitment to quality and taste. The acquisition is expected to strengthen both brands' commitment to bringing beloved products made from carefully selected ingredients to consumers' tables worldwide.

Upon completion of the deal, Goodles headquarters will remain in Santa Cruz, California, and it will continue to operate independently as a separate brand. Co-founder and CEO Jen Zeszut will continue to lead the 73-person workforce.

Guido Barilla, chairman of Barilla Group, noted that the company had closely followed Goodles for a long time and was impressed by the brand's strength, product quality, and growth momentum. Barilla added that as they got to know the management team led by Zeszut, they were greatly impressed by the organization's strength, cohesion, and forward-thinking mindset, qualities that convinced them that Goodles was the right choice and represents an exciting opportunity for the future.

On her part, CEO Zeszut noted that more than 90% of the US public has yet to taste Goodles products, meaning operations are only at the beginning. According to her, the brand aims to expand its activities to achieve an even broader impact on a global scale. Zeszut emphasized that Barilla Group is the exact partner for the brand and the hardworking team, as it can help the company innovate and grow on the international stage while maintaining decision-making independence and strict product quality standards.
