Smart Shooter has been awarded a 36-month, single-award IDIQ (indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity) contract by the US Department of War’s Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401), establishing a procurement framework worth up to $150 million for the company’s SMASH family of rifle-mounted counter-drone fire control systems.
The award, announced September 29, positions Smart Shooter as the sole provider of the systems, associated training, and support services under the contract.
JIATF-401 serves as the US government’s central coordination body for counter-UAS activities, synchronizing efforts across the military services and federal agencies. The new contract supports the task force’s Domestic Shield Program, which is an initiative focused on protecting US forces, bases, and critical infrastructure from small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) as well as operational missions around the world.
The IDIQ structure allows the government to issue delivery orders over the next three years for hardware, software updates, training packages, and sustainment services. Quantities and timelines will be determined by individual orders, enabling rapid fielding as operational needs evolve.
SMASH: Precision counter-drone capability at the soldier level
Smart Shooter’s flagship SMASH systems combine artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision, and machine learning to transform standard infantry rifles into precision-guided weapons. The system automatically locks onto and tracks targets such as small, fast, low-flying drones and releases a round only when a hit is highly probable. Operators retain full decision authority over engagement.
The system can also integrate with external sensors and battle management systems, expanding its role within layered counter-UAS architectures.
This capability has become increasingly critical as militaries around the globe continue to confront a surge in unmanned aerial threats.

US Army Brig.-Gen. Matt Ross, director of JIATF-401, emphasized the task force’s focus on rapid capability delivery, saying that "JIATF-401 is continuously working with industry partners to provide the counter-UAS capabilities needed to protect warfighters and installations. Our approach allows us to identify the right capabilities for specific operational requirements and rapidly deliver those capabilities to the warfighter."
Thousands of SMASH systems have already been deployed across the army, navy, air force, and Marine Corps.
This latest award continues a year of rapid growth for the company in the United States. Over the past 12 months, Smart Shooter has signed contracts with the US Army, US Air Force, US Navy, and US Marine Corps.
In March 2026, Smart Shooter announced a $2.4m. contract with the US Joint Interagency Task Force JIATF-401. That was followed in May by a $10.7m. US Army contract, and in early June, the company reported its first major agreement with the US Navy, valued at $1.8m., and another contract with the Marine Corps Systems Command awarded the company a $3.4m. contract, with options for additional systems, spare parts, and training valued at $2.4m., that could bring the total value to approximately $5.8m.
Smart Shooter systems are also in use by the IDF, United Kingdom, Germany, and several NATO militaries, many of which are also currently adapting to the growing proliferation of attack drones on the battlefield.
The Smart Shooter portfolio includes handheld-operated, remote-controlled unmanned ground-vehicle-mounted solutions, designed to maximize hit probability against aerial and land targets.
In March, the company launched trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) with a valuation of NIS 900m., marking one of the most notable defense-sector IPOs of the year.
