There will be a movie adaptation of Keshet 12’s hit romantic comedy, Save the Date, and it will take the characters to Greece, its producers announced.

The first season, which was released on Channel 12 in Israel in 2024 and later streamed on Netflix, played like a cross between the Jennifer Lopez movie The Wedding Planner and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.

It told the story of Hadas “Dassi” Toledano (Adi Havshush), who was waiting for her boyfriend (Tamir Bar), an arrogant performance artist, to pop the question. After a divine intervention by her grandmothers, she found herself pursued by four men.

Her boyfriend was suddenly dying to commit; a European prince (Rony Herman) started courting her, and she also reconnected with both her high-school best friend (Tomer Capone), now a hi-tech entrepreneur about to marry her teen nemesis (Shira Naor), and her high-school crush, Hen (Oshri Cohen), who ran a horse farm.

Movie set to pick up following second season

The movie will pick up after the end of the second season, which is currently being filmed. It will follow Dassi on a vacation at a resort in Greece and will bring the series’ story to a conclusion on the big screen.

The cast list for the movie includes most of the actors from the first season, except for Capone. Michael Aloni (Shtisel) will be joining the cast, which is an interesting development. Other additions will include Eliana Tidhar, Miki Kam, Dov Navon, Adi Himelbloy, and Talia Bartfeld.

The film’s creators are Uri Gross, Tamira Yardeni-Salem, Yoav Tzafir, and Tamar Marom. This is the first film project for Gross, the series’ screenwriter and one of its creators, whose previous work includes such cult television series as Our Song and Danny Hollywood.

The film will be directed by acclaimed director Eitan Zur, whose television credits include The Bourgeoisie, The Lesson, and Asylum City.
