An attacker opened fire at the gates of the mosque before setting off a suicide bomb and killing at least 31 people in the deadliest attack of its kind in Pakistan's capital in more than a decade.

More than 170 others were wounded in the explosion, which occured after security guards attempted to block the attacker from entering the mosque compound.

"This hate comes from the far right, which threatens us as well as them.... we need to stand for each other,” Rabbi Moshe David HaCohen told The Jerusalem Post.

Palestinian officials say two mosque figures were barred from the Ibrahimi Mosque for 15 days amid ongoing tensions in Hebron.

Hours after the explosion, an armed group known as Saraya Ansar al-Sunnah claimed responsibility through an official statement.

Local official Issam Naameh told Reuters the blast took place during Friday noon prayers, typically the busiest time for mosques.

The blast occurred in Maiduguri, a city that has been at the heart of an Islamist insurgency waged by Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, for nearly two decades.

Attached to the Quran was a sticker bearing a message, written in both Arabic and Swedish, urging Muslims to “return to their homeland.”

The possible three-year suspension relates to a post shared by Malik on 13 October 2023 describing the October 7 massacre as a “supremely defensive act,” while calling for the destruction of Israel.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the scene, and blamed previous Shin Bet head Ronen Bar for not acting on Bedouin crime.
