Eilat's coastline has undergone extensive transformation in recent years, featuring upgraded beach facilities, the development of new promenades, and the establishment of leisure and recreation spaces along the gulf. The work includes improvements to the storm protection system, the replacement of changing rooms and restrooms, the construction of public restroom facilities, the creation of shaded areas, play zones, tiered seating overlooking the sea, and the installation of new lifeguard towers.
Simultaneously, the city's promenades are also being developed: A new southern promenade in the port area, a renewed leisure space at the marina, and a new public roundabout planned for the northern promenade, featuring a large pergola, seating steps, and a water-jet splash pad.
More accessible beaches and new service facilities
The work along the beaches is being carried out by the Dead Sea Works Ltd., serving as an operational arm of the Tourism Ministry, in cooperation with the Eilat Municipality. As part of the consolidation of the Tourism Ministry's government companies, all future projects in Eilat where implementation has not yet begun will be carried out by the Israel Government Tourist Corporation.
As part of the current works, the storm protection system along the coastline has been upgraded. At the North Beach, the boulder strip that served as a barrier along the shore was dismantled in order to create a continuous walking path and integrate entry and exit paths to the beaches.
In addition, showers along the designated beaches have been replaced, changing stalls have been installed, and new restroom facilities have been constructed. The longstanding lifeguard towers at the North Beach have also been replaced with more modern and spacious structures.
At Coral Beach, a new lifeguard station has been established as part of the preparations to turn it into the first designated, supervised beach in the southern part of the Gulf of Eilat.
New sea square at the northern promenade
One of the central projects currently underway is the development of the Sea Square at the northern promenade. The open space between the Mall of the Sea and the Pninat Eilat Center is set to transform and become a public square at the main entrance to the North Beach.
The project, executed by the Dead Sea Works Ltd., includes the construction of a large, iconic pergola, tiered seating and steps facing the gulf, a water play area with jets, garden flowerbeds, and shaded areas, alongside the connection and accessibility of the existing commercial frontage to the promenade. The works are expected to last about a year and a half. During this period, changes will be implemented in traffic arrangements along the promenade, but pedestrian passage along it will remain permitted even while the work is being carried out.
The work on the promenade joins additional extensive projects, including the upgrading of the marina and the marina plaza, as part of the municipality's policy to improve the public space and tourist infrastructure.
At the commercial marina, a project is underway to regulate the complex as part of work to repair the damage from the 2020 storm along the coastline. The project includes the construction of an entrance structure to the pier containing public restrooms.
